Hu Jintao Meets with Guinean Counterpart

On the afternoon of September 16, 2011, Chinese President Hu Jintao met at the Great Hall of the People with his Guinean counterpart Alpha Conde who was in China for the 2011 Summer Davos Forum. Both sides exchanged views on consolidating and developing bilateral friendly cooperative relations and reached broad consensus.

Hu said in the meeting that since the two countries established diplomatic ties more than half a century ago, China-Guinea relations have seen substantial growth on the basis of the five principles of peaceful co-existence. Hu said the two sides have treated each other as equals in a sincere and friendly way and achieved fruitful results in various fields of cooperation. Hu said the cooperation between China and Guinea was good enough to serve as "an example of South-South cooperation".

Hu said the Chinese side is ready to work with the Guinean side to lift the bilateral relations to a new level. He said in the political area, the two countries should strengthen communication between leaders, government departments and legislatures to advance bilateral cooperation. In the economic area, Hu said, the two sides should fully implement the consensus and projects they have agreed upon, tap cooperation potential and expand areas of bilateral cooperation. In the cultural area, the two sides should create more favorable conditions for the two peoples to expand friendly exchanges so as to enhance mutual understanding and friendship, Hu said. In regard to regional and international affairs, Hu said the two sides should strengthen solidarity and cooperation in pushing the international community to pay greater attention to and support Africa. They should also join hands to promote peace and development of the world, Hu said.

Conde said Guinea and China share a long history of friendly relations and that the two peoples enjoy profound friendship. He expressed admiration for China's development achievements, saying his country is committed to developing bilateral friendly cooperation. Conde said the Guinean side is glad to see the sound momentum in growth of bilateral ties with the joint efforts of both sides. He said his country is ready to work with China to further strengthen political exchanges and cooperation in various fields, deepen people-to-people friendship and continuingly advance the friendly, cooperative relationship with China.

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, MOC International Trade Representative & Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng and other officials attended the meeting.
